If you are going to play any casino game that is based on poker such as video poker, caribbean stud or let it ride you will need to become familiar with the hand rankings. The poker hand rankings are the same for the majority of games so once you learn them you can apply them to a lot of games.
The Basics
- A standard deck contains 52 cards
- There are four suits which are Diamonds, Clubs, Spades and Hearts
- Each suit has 13 cards
- Individual cards are ranked A, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, 10, J, Q, K, A
- Aces can be either high or low
- Poker hands are made up of five cards
Poker Hand Rankings (From best to worst)
- Royal Flush
10, J, Q, K & A all of the same suit
- Straight Flush
Five consecutive cards of the same suit
- Four of a Kind
Four cards of the same value. Example J, J, J, J
- Full House
Three of a kind and a pair
- Flush
Any five cards of the same suit not in consecutive order
- Straight
Five unsuited cards in consecutive order
- Three of a Kind
Three cards with the same value. Example Q, Q, Q
- Two Pairs
Two different sets of pairs of cards of the same value
- Pair
Any two cards of the same value
- High Card
If no other hand is made the highest value card is the high card
