The Best and Worst Bets at The Casino

When you gamble you should always try to keep the house edge as low as possible. A quick way of doing this is to learn which bets have the highest house edge and which bets have the lowest. Most players think that slots are the worst bet in the casino but this is not the case.

Best Bets

The following list shows the best ten best to make at both online and offline casinos. We then explain why they are good options to go win.

  • Craps - Pass / Come
  • Craps - Don't Pass / Don't Come
  • Craps - Free Odds
  • Video Poker - Full Pay Job
  • Video Poker - Double Up
  • Baccarat - Banker
  • Baccarat - Player
  • Blackjack
  • Pai Gow Poker - Banker
  • 3 Card Poker - Pair Plus

The list of bets above all have one thing in common. The house edges range from around 2% to 0%. This means that by playing these bets you will over the long term lose less money than you would with other bets. Of course there is no guarantee that you will win but upi give yourself a good chance.

Worst Bets

The list below shows the then worst bets to make at a casino. All of these bets have a high house edge which means you will lose more over the long term.

  • Keno
  • Big Six Wheel
  • Casino War - Tie
  • Craps - Proposition Bets
  • Caribbean Stud - Side Bet
  • Blackjack - Insurance
  • Let it Ride - Side Bet
  • Baccarat - Tie
  • Roulette - Double Zero Tables
  • Slots - Progressive Jackpots

The bets above all have a house edge higher than 5% - some like the Big Six and Keno best can have a house advantage of over 20%. While these best may offer what seems to be big pay offs for a small bet the fact of the matter is that if you make these bets the odds are against you.

Important Notes

There are a few notes that have to be added to the lists above. The games that require some level of skill such as blackjack or video poker assume that you are playing perfectly. If you do not play correctly the actual house edge will vary widely. This is why slots are not the worst bet in the casino. If you play blackjack badly or hold the wrong cards on video poker the odds can be much worse.

Another point to consider is the fact that you should be gaming for the entertainment factor. This means that if you do not like playing blackjack, craps or baccarat you should not do so simply because the house edge is low. If you really like playing a side bet on caribbean stud then you should do what you like to do - you never know you might hit a big jackpot for a royal flush. Just be aware that the odds are going to be well in favor of the house.
