Craps Terminology

If you are new to casino craps you might be confused by some of the terms used. This section covers all of the most commonly used terms relating to craps and by learning the lingo you are sure to get a better understanding of the game.

  • Any 7
    A bet that the next roll will have a total of seven
     
  • Any Craps
    A bet that the next roll will total 2, 3 or 12
     
  • Back Line
    An alternative name for the don't pass line
     
  • Behind the Line
    An odds bet made after the initial come out roll
     
  • Big Red
    A bet that the next roll will be a seven
     
  • Come Out Roll
    The first roll of the dice that starts the game round
     
  • Crap
    A term used for rolls that total 2, 3 or 12
     
  • Double Odds
    An odds bet that is double the original bet
     
  • Easy Way
    A dice total that does not contain two of the same numbers
     
  • Field Bet
    A bet that the total on the next roll will be 2, 3, 4, 9, 10, 11 or 12
     
  • Free Odds Bet
    The best bet on the craps table. This bet has no house advantage
     
  • Front Line
    An alternative term used for pass line
     
  • Hardway
    A dice total that contains two of the same numbers
     
  • Inside Numbers
    Refers to the totals of 5, 6, 8 or 9
     
  • Lay Bet
    A bet that 4, 5, 6, 8, 9 or 10 will occur before a 7
     
  • Line Bet
    A bet on either the pass or don't pass lines
     
  • Odds Bet
    Another way of saying the Free Odds Bet
     
  • Off / On
    A marker showing which bets are active or not active on the next roll
     
  • Pass
    A roll that totals 7 or 10 or makes a point
     
  • Pass Line
    The most popular bet on the craps table which pays even money
     
  • Point
    A total made on the come out roll that is not 2, 3, 7, 11 or 12
     
  • Proposition
    A series of one roll bets that have a high house advantage
     
  • Shooter
    The gambler who is rolling the dice is known as the shooter
     
  • Stickman
    The person at the casino who controls the table
     
  • Wrong Betting
    Placing a bet on the don't pass line when others are betting on pass line
     
  • Yo
    Used to call 11 due the the fact that 7 and 11 sound quite similar.
