Blackjack is a game played at casinos around the world and is also
available at all good online casinos. It is a casino card game where
you aim to get cards totaling 21 or as close to 21 as possible without
going over. Anything higher than 21 busts and automatically loses.
The dealer has the same aim and must follow the table rules which
vary from table. To win you must beat the dealers hand.
Card Values
The game is played with standard playing cards and no jokers. All
cards have their face value except Kings, Queens and Jacks which
are worth 10. The Ace is the most important card as it can have
two values, either 1 or 11.
Game Sequence
Before you are dealt any cards you must make a bet. Unlike in poker
games this is not an ante but your whole bet for the game. In some
circumstances you can double your bet.
You are then dealt two cards face up and the dealer is dealt two
cards, one face up and one face down. You then have to decide on
whether you are happy or want to make another move.
You will generally have four or five options at this point.
Hit : Receive another card as many times as you
like
Stand : Receive no more cards
Double Down : Double your bet and receive one more
card
Spilt : Split up the hand you have to make two
separate hands
Insurance : Make a bet to win if the dealer has
blackjack
Game Outcomes
There are five possible outcomes in a hand of blackjack.
Win : If you hand totals more than the dealers you win
Push : If your hand ties with the dealer you get your bet back
Lose : If the dealer has a higher hand you lose your bet
Blackjack : If your first two cards total 21 eg. Ace, King
Blackjack Payoffs
Win is paid 1 to 1, blackjack is 3 to 2 and insurance is paid 2
to 1
