- First Base
The player on the dealers far left who is first to act on each hand
- Flat Betting
Keeping all of your blackjack bets the same size
- Hand
The cards a player is dealt are known as a hand
- Hard Hand
A hand which does not contain an Ace
- Hit
Drawing another card to your hand is know as hitting
- Hole Card
The dealers card that is dealt face down
- Insurance
A bet that can be made against the dealer having blackjack
- Late Surrender
An option to give up half a bet if the dealer does not have blackjack
- Natural
A two card hand that has a total of 21. Also known as blackjack.
- Pat Hand
A two card hand that has a total of 17 or better
- Penetration
The number of cards dealt from the shoe before the cards are shuffled
- Push
A tie between the players and the dealers hand.
- Running Count
Relates to card counting and is the count since the start of the shoe
- Shoe
The box that the cards are dealt from on the blackjack table
- Shuffle Up
When the cards are shuffled early to deter card counters
- Single Deck
A game of blackjack that uses only one deck of cards
- Soft Total
Any hard where and ace uses a total of 11
- Stand
A decision by the player to not receive any more cards
- Surrender
An option to give up a half bet when the dealer checks for
blackjack
- Twenty One
Another name for blackjack. Based on the best hand which totals 21
- Unfavorable Deck
Relates to counting. A deck that is in favor of the house.
- Up Card
The dealers card which is dealt face up and can bee seen by players.
